The Study of Bed Construction and the Dynamic Impact on the Human Form

Hypothesis Hypothesis

As previously stated, and illustrated in the Biomechanics testing reports, correct support contributes to improved spinal alignment.

From a broad understanding of the adverse consequences of poor posture as illustrated particularly workplace situations now governed by heath and safety laws, it was conceived that poor posture during bed rest/sleep would similarly contribute to deterioration of heath. On this basis a preliminary testing process, entitled “The Dynamic Effects of the Spinal Support Beddings Systems on Recumbent Postures”, was conducted by researchers from the School of Chiropractic at Macquarie University, Sydney, let by Dr. Ray Hayek BSc(Hons).,Mchiropractic.,PhD.,FICC.

Testing Protocols Testing Protocols

A range of male and female subjects were tested on a bed unit without Variable Support and then on the same bed unit with Variable Supported introduced.

The methodology included radiography to determine the effect on the spine providing specific visual interpretation of any variations to spinal alignment.

The testing also incorporated pressure mapping to demonstrate the relationship of varying pressure on the recumbent form.

Test results

This preliminary testing regime produced three notable observations as prescribed by Dr. Hayek in his summary:

1 Vertebral Xray Decrease in “disc wedging” demonstrating less tension and compression
at those levels. Decreased spinal rotation

2 Vertebral XrayImproved spinal alignment closer to the ‘zero stress’ posture.

3 Notably improved pressure distribution demonstrating a significant decrease of peak pressure points. Average Pressure
