Comparative testing proves our beds are better

Because they are the only beds that are 'scientifically designed' to support the human body correctly and with minimal distortion.

The human spine is shaped like an 'S' curve when it is straightened or bent, stresses are formed within the spinal disks.

These stresses are detrimental to the health of the spine and should be avoided. They are 'always' produced by incorrect support of the spine when sleeping.

When the body is young, they are usually within the body's tolerance levels, as we get older, our tolerance levels drop and we feel morning stiffness and/or pain.

When we lie on a bed - there is no magic happening (as far as support is concerned).

What support features does a bed need?

We can only prevent Bending Stresses from forming within the spinal disks only if the mattress or bed possesses the following:

1. A ‘Lumbar Zone’

Narrow in width (5cm - 8cm) and capable to be moved into the exact right position. This zone needs also to be variable in firmness from 100% to over 300% above the firmness of the bed in the hip area and needs to be placed generally some 5cm above the waist/belt line.

Picture example here of a ‘Firm Zone’ directly beneath the arch of the spine – or the waist/rib area when turning on one’s side.

Lumbar Zone

2. A ‘Shoulder Zone’

This is a zone 20cm to 30cm in width that is much softer than the general firmness of the mattress - preferably less than 50% firmness, and to be made of a material such as foam, latex, etc not only to decrease the rotation and distortion of the shoulder, but also to diminish the pressure on the shoulder socket as much as possible.

Picture example here of a mattress with a shoulder relief zone.

Shoulder Zone

3. Many ‘Intermediate Zones’

As many intermediate zones as possible between the softest and the firmest.

7 on the overall mattress as a minimum, 9 and 11 preferably.

(3 zones – as commonly found in a lot of mattresses are not very effective and cause increased pressure on the hip socket.)

Picture example here of a mattress with a shoulder relief zone.

Picture example here – of a 9 Zone mattress support material.

Intermediate Zones

If a mattress/bed does not possess such zones of this very dissimilar range of magnitudes, in exactly the appropriate positions, then much distortion will undoubtedly occur.

Such properties were patented and incorporated years ago into models designed and manufactured by Mr. Piraino at Spinal Support Bed Systems. They now form the basis of 'Futura Bed Technologies' which is being licensed worldwide.

  1. For a bed to provide lumbar support – it needs to have a ‘physical means with which to Increase that support – in the exact right position coinciding with the lumbar curve of our spine. Not above it, nor below it!!
  2. For a bed to offer shoulder or hip –socket relief - it must have a real physical means to decrease that pressure directly below either joint – and not elsewhere as that would alter support at those other points.

If a bed is not tailor-made and is intended to be suitable for a myriad of people, then, such a bed needs to have physical Variable Support Capabilities, Otherwise inevitably, it distorts – not supports. Many Bedding Manufacturers worldwide make claims about their bed models ability to offer correct postural support.

Only Beds with Futura have such capabilities
